My M.A.S.K. collection has grown again! This one is a childhood favorite, one that either my brother or I had when we were kids. Of all the toys we had that I wanted to add to my new collection, this is the one I was looking forward to the most. This lovely blue helicopter is Switchblade. How about that glorious clear pink cockpit?

The head bad guy of V.E.N.O.M., the evil counterforce to M.A.S.K., is this fellow, Miles Mayhem. (That might be the greatest villain name of all time!) He is Switchblade’s pilot. Miles is an arms dealer, and his special mask shoots out poisonous acid! I could not get the mask to stay on evenly, which from what I have seen seems to be a common issue.

Of course, Switchblade is a M.A.S.K. toy, so it’s not JUST a cool helicopter. It has an alternate mode, and it’s a show stopper! Stow the chopper blades, flip up the tail fin, and SNIKT! the wings flip down into place. The action on this is so satisfying! Next, flip the landing skids up, pop out the guns, and you’ve got yourself a deadly fighter aircraft!

Switchblade is one of the best toys of all time, in my opinion. The dark blue plastic is very appealing in hand. Then there’s the rad vaporwave design of the stripes, and of course the clear pink cockpit… this toy is gorgeous! There’s even a button to press to make the copter blades spin. Switchblade has great shelf presence, and coupled with its amazing play value, Switchblade is easily the highlight of my small M.A.S.K. collection.

My brother from another mother, Chuck, was into MASK. I never picked any up. This was something that I coveted though. Great design aesthetics!
It really is one of the definitive 80s toy designs.
